Thinking Rationally
Finding Your Narrative

I constantly find myself questioning my thoughts, beliefs, and decisions. With digital technology being an integral part of our lives for only the past couple of decades, it's fair to view this new era as a rendition of the Wild West. It's quite difficult to comprehend the implications of unregulated information access across the general public. You open your feed and see tweets, pictures, videos, facts, opinions, opinions labeled as facts, and facts labeled as opinions. Inevitably, the media that you consume, consumes you. The next time you defend a supposition that isn't merited by empirical data ask yourself if you would have done it before you saw that tweet. The next time you are about to make an online purchase, ask yourself if you would have done it before you saw that ad that so strangely knows what your preferences are. Although the input seems hardly pernicious, we fall into a trap of being influenced without prior intent. As technology continues to evolve at hyper-speed, we must ask ourselves how we maintain our unique narratives in a sea of irrationality.
